Surgical Services
Surgical Care

Our hospital is well-equipped to perform most minor and major surgical procedures from spays and neuters to more complicated emergency, orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. Generally, surgeries involve anything related to trauma, oral or dental, ear, skin masses and tumors, eye, stomach, intestine and colon, reproductive, urinary, endocrine (hormonal system, thyroid), lymphatic, cancer surgery, intestinal foreign bodies, surgical biopsy, and orthopedic procedures such as fracture repair, anterior cruciate ligament injuries, and others.
Prior to surgery, each patient receives a thorough physical examination to identify any existing medical conditions that might endanger your pet's health. Because not all problems can be detected on examination, we also suggest preanesthetic blood & urine testing. These tests not only give us a more complete picture of your pet's health, but also allow us to tailor an anesthetic regimen that is specific for your pet.
We offer a wide variety of anesthetic protocols tailored to your pet's individual needs. We use state-of-the-art anesthetic machines offering isoflurane anesthesia. Please discuss these options with our staff. We also utilize a variety of anesthetic monitoring devices including Doppler blood pressure monitors, respiratory monitors, and other cardiac monitoring equipment. IV fluids are recommended for all surgical procedures to support the vascular system and provide an open port for rapid medication administration if needed.
Pain management is an important part of our pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative anesthetic and medical protocol. All surgical patients including those undergoing routine procedures such as ovariohysterectomy or castrations receive pain control medications. We urge you to discuss operative pain management options with our staff.
Orthopedic Surgery
Prior to starting the Avon Lake Animal Clinic, Dr. John Simpson taught surgery at the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Many of the routine orthopedic techniques we use are unique themes on routine techniques that have proven themselves through the test of time. Dr. Simpson mentored Dr. Haddad and Dr. Lamb and still is available for consultation on more difficult orthopedic cases.
Physical rehabilitation is a newer branch of veterinary medicine. Dr. Noonan and Dr. Haddad have both attended seminars on physical rehabilitation and are prepared to provide your pet with the best combination of surgery and rehabilitation to promote rapid return to normal function after orthopedic surgery.
Laser Surgery

Laser surgery minimizes bleeding, reduces pain and swelling and promotes more rapid healing. When your pet undergoes laser surgery, he or she will recover more quickly and face less post-operative pain. Laser surgery also is more precise and greatly reduces the risk of infection.
