At Avon Lake Animal Clinic, we are fully equipped with the most up-to-date diagnostic services available. We offer digital radiology, ultrasonography, endoscopy, and have a full service in-house laboratory. These amenities allow us to accurately and efficiently diagnose and manage treatment protocols for our patients.
Digital radiology is a safer and more efficient alternative to traditional radiology. These radiographs produce superior image quality and can be manipulated through software programs to limit repeat radiographs, reducing radiation exposure. If warranted, digital radiographs can be sent via telemedicine for a Radiologist to review. As a diagnostic tool, digital x-rays are essential in identifying many medical conditions.
Ultrasound with Doppler
Ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic tool utilizing sound waves to create an image. The two most common areas to image with ultrasound are the abdomen and heart (echocardiogram), although other areas can be evaluated. Detailed information can be obtained about specific organs and is often combined with digital radiology to ensure an accurate diagnosis. Our ultrasound machine is state-of-the-art, has color flow Doppler (evaluation of blood flow), produces excellent image quality, and has the ability to transfer images via telemedicine for review by veterinary specialists in radiology and cardiology. Although the technology is advanced, the true diagnostic benefit is in the interpretation of the images. Dr. Julie Letosky is currently enrolled at the University of Illinois Executive Veterinary Program for advanced training and certification in small animal ultrasound.
Endoscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure that utilizes a rigid or flexible fiber-optic camera to evaluate body cavities. It can be used to remove foreign material from cavities such as the stomach or nasal sinus. Endoscopy is also beneficial in obtaining tissue samples for biopsies or cultures without the need of an extensive surgery. Please inquire to see if one of Avon Lake Animal Clinic’s endoscopic procedures is appropriate for your pet. Some of these procedures include:
- GI Endoscopy
